Long distance tours that last for weeks or even months on end require an exceptional bicycle. When the roads aren't even roads, the bike needs to be ready for anything! The Trek 520 Grando is that bike.

A purpose-built touring machine will make every mile (paved or unpaved) easier when loaded down with a tent, panniers, sleeping bag, and food for two weeks. The frame needs to be strong and stable, while the drivetrain should be ready for day-long hilly excursions. With all that extra cargo you'll probably have on board, disc brakes are practically required to help reign in speed on steep descents. Trek has been building touring bicycles since the 80's, ensuring that it is one of the most refined dedicated touring machines of the last 30 years.

Butted cro-moly steel is an excellent choice for a touring bicycle's frame. Durability and ride quality is needed for every mile, and the 520 Grando's frame has it covered. The bike can carry up to 275 pounds of total weight (rider+cargo+ total weight of bicycle), making it more than ready for a rider who packs two of everything. Mounts for, well, everything are found throughout the 520 Grando's frame, including bottle cages, front and rear racks, fenders and even a pump peg at the back of the head tube for a full-length frame pump. Tire clearance is generous, allowing tires up to a 29x2.0" for a comfortable ride on rough and unpaved trails. When the chips are down and the mud is flying, you want a no-holds-barred cyclocross bike that is up to the challenge.

The Trek Boone 6 has been developed from racing in the mud of Flanders and the hardpan of the Midwest. A light and nimble feel along with a rugged design allows the Boone 6 to fly up hills and still take a beating on rough, technical courses. Make no mistake, this isn't a "pretend" 'cross bike that was really meant for gravel touring. World Cup victories and World Championships won on the previous Boone models helped make the Boone 6 a bike for the very best.

Trek's engineers could have rested on their laurels after Lucinda Brand won the 2021 World Cyclocross Championship on a Boone. But they didn't. They wanted to improve the Boone, and make the bike even better for a wider range of riders and courses. Trek kept the same carbon fiber "recipe" as last year: 600 Series OCLV carbon fiber, ensuring a featherweight frame with incredible torsional strength. A dash of Kammtail Virtual Foil -or KVF- aerodynamic shaping has been added to the frame and fork, lowering drag during high speed sections. Even the cable routing runs through a profiled top cap, cleaning up the Boone's leading edge. Start-line sprints and steep inclines require a bike with a rock-solid feel when stomping on the pedals, and the Boone delivers with a flex-free T47 bottom bracket. A tapered head tube adds precision to the Boone's handling on technical courses while 12mm thru-axles front and rear improve lateral rigidity for carving corners at high speed. The IsoSpeed decoupler found at the seat tube/top tube juncture uses a pair of cartridge bearings to add more vertical compliance to the Boone's ride quality. Rough courses can tire anyone too quickly, but the Boone's IsoSpeed technology takes the edge off harsh surface elements. The Ride Tuned seatmast and cap gives the bike even better compliance compared to any garden-variety seatpost. A flattened top tube is more comfortable when shouldering the Boone on steep run-ups. Flat-mount disc brakes and Control Freak internal cable routing give the Boone a clean, refined look, while an adjustable 3S chain keeper prevents dropped chains (and possibly lost races) on the roughest of race courses.

Shimano's latest 11-speed GRX components are found throughout the Boone 6, including the dual-control levers, clutch-equipped rear derailleur, lightweight single-ring crankset and hydraulic disc brakes. The GRX lever hoods boast a new shape and texture, adding confidence in sloppy conditions. A 40T single chainring is matched with an 11-34T Shimano cassette, bringing a just-right gearing range for cyclocross racing. Bontrager supplies the tubeless-ready alloy Paradigm Comp 25 wheels and race-ready Bontrager CX3 Team Issue 700x32c tires. A lightweight wheelset makes any 'cross bike faster, but the Paradigm Comp's 25mm internal rim width produces a more useful tire "footprint" that improves traction. Shimano GRX hydraulic disc brakes brings excellent lever feedback to the party, making every hairpin turn an outbraking opportunity.

Trek Checkpoint ALR 4

The Checkpoint series from Trek is a no-compromise adventure-ready machine. With room for wide tires (up to 45mm!) and rack mounts galore, the Checkpoint is ready for hundreds of miles in uncharted territory, or just a trip to the grocery store.

The Checkpoint ALR 4 blends the best attributes of endurance road bikes, touring bikes and hardtail mountain bikes. A long wheelbase and stable geometry helps keep the Checkpoint where you pointed it (pun intended) on broken pavement and soft pea-gravel. Even the bottom bracket/crankset location was set slightly lower compared to road bikes to improve the rider's center of gravity. Ample tire clearance allows meaty rubber to be installed for boatloads of traction on loose surfaces, especially on steep climbs. The upright fit of the Checkpoint adds comfort on multi-day expeditions or just bumpy roads. Mounts for racks, fenders, and bottle cages are found all over the Checkpoint ALR 4, including front low-rider mounts and a bottle cage mount on the underside of the down tube. The multiple bottle mounts on the interior of the main triangle are designed to allow a sizeable frame bag to be used without ditching hydration.

Trek used their proprietary 300 Series Alpha aluminum for the Checkpoint's frame, ensuring light weight and impressive torsional strength. Out back, adjustable Stranglehold 12mm thru-axle dropouts allow the use of even wider tires and fenders, or to shorten the wheelbase for more nimble handling. The adjustable dropouts also allow the Checkpoint to be converted to a singlespeed drivetrain as well. Cool, huh? Up front, a carbon fiber fork soaks up vibration exceptionally well, while also featuring 12mm thru-axle dropouts and multiple rack and fender mounts.

Knowing that Checkpoint the ALR series bikes might be used in rough conditions and bad weather, Trek equipped them with Shimano's gravel-oriented GRX components. This Checkpoint ALR 4 uses Shimano GRX 10-speed shifters and derailleurs, delivering excellent functionality and durability. The rear derailleur is clutch-equipped, ensuring precise gear changes and chain retention, especially on rough surfaces. The GRX lever shape has been profiled to be more comfortable for extended riding on the hoods. An alloy GRX 46/30T crankset is paired with an 11-34T Shimano cassette, bringing a very wide gearing range for challenging inclines. Bontrager's tubeless-ready alloy wheels are shod with knobby 700x40c Bontrager GR1 Comp gravel tires. Shimano GRX hydraulic disc brakes boast excellent stopping power in all conditions, rain or shine. The 300 Series Alpha aluminum frame features tapered and butted tubes created by hydroforming, keeping weight low while adding plenty of strength. Shimano's durable GRX gravel components are found on the Checkpoint ALR 5's drivetrain. With features like an adjustable chain-retaining clutch on the rear derailleur, reshaped and textured lever hoods and adjustable-reach brake levers, Shimano GRX components are ready for hard and dirty riding. A GRX alloy crankset with 46/30T chainrings is matched with an 11-34T Shimano HG-700 cassette, bringing a huge gearing range to every challenging incline. Technology mixed with decades of engineering experience at Trek has led us to awesome machines like this. Trek's 500 Series OCLV carbon fiber makes up the frame, producing a very light chassis. Need even wider tires? The Checkpoint SL 6 will take rubber up to 45mm wide, thanks to a roomy fork and a clever "dropped" drive-side chainstay. Got plenty of stuff? Rack mounts, fender mounts and up to 4 bottle mounts let you install all kinds of bags and accessories for multi-day adventures. Are the "roads" barely worthy of the name? The Checkpoint SL 6 has your back with an IsoSpeed decoupler and Ride Tuned seatmast at the top of the seat tube/top tube juncture. This clever technology allows the frame and seatmast to comfortably flex when attacking washboard hardpan, pavement transitions and railway crossings. A stable geometry and a low bottom bracket add confidence on loose surfaces. That comfort doesn't come at the cost of handling and torsional strength, though. A tapered head tube and rock-solid BB90 bottom bracket adds strength for precise handling and flex-free power delivery. An adjustable Strangehold thru-axle rear dropout can adjust the wheelbase by as much as 15mm, offering a longer wheelbase for stability, or a shorter wheelbase for the more classic feel of a road bike. Loose surfaces can mean lots of "roost" from spinning tires, but the Checkpoint SL's Carbon Armor will protect the downtube's bottom from flying stones. Front and rear 12mm thru-axles bring an extra dash of torsional strength for razor-sharp handling.

Shimano’s latest GRX gravel components are a natural choice for the Checkpoint SL 6. The 11-speed “RX800” version of the gravel-specific components provide a durable high-performance drivetrain when heading into parts unknown. Shimano’s 40/31T GRX crankset is paired with an 11-34T Shimano HG-800 cassette, bringing a wide gearing range to every adventure. The Checkpoint's dual-control levers are reshaped for riders spending more time on their hoods, along with a retextured hood surface. Hydraulic disc brakes bring plenty of stopping power and excellent lever feedback to the Checkpoint SL 6.

Bontrager supplies the alloy Paradigm Comp 25 wheels, bringing light weight to the bike with every acceleration. The 25mm interior rim width allows wide tires to spread out for a better footprint, improving grip on loose surfaces. They're tubeless-ready, improving reliability during backcountry riding and racing when set up with sealant. The tires are Bontrager's GR1 Team Issue tires in a 700x40c size; perfect for hardpan, light gravel and rough pavement.

The Checkpoint SL models of the previous generation were overwhelmingly popular with our customers. Sprightly handling, butter-smooth feel, and practical mounting points made it one of the best gravel bikes on the market. Trek decided to appeal to the adventurous riders for the 2022 season by redesigning the geometry slightly and make the Checkpoint even more useful. Trek used their proven 500 Series OCLV carbon fiber in the new frameset, producing a light and strong backbone for the Checkpoint SL 7 eTap. The overall frame shaping improves torsional strength, while keeping overall weight low. Trek's exclusive IsoSpeed technology is found at the top tube/seat tube juncture, delivering a very smooth ride quality. The threaded T47 bottom bracket, tapered head tube and thru-axle dropouts enhance the bike's torsional strength further, improving power delivery and overall handling. The geometry changed for the 2022 Checkpoint, with a 2cm longer top tube (and shorter stem) that bestows more stable handling. Mountain bikes designed with similar "progressive" geometry are far more adept in twisty and technical terrain without feeling awkward. Descending washed-out fire roads can be done with increased confidence. Mounts for racks, bottle cages and fenders are still there, but Trek added an internal storage compartment in the down tube for tools and a repair kit. There are bottle mounts on the fork blades as well. The underside of the down tube boasts a polymer Carbon Armor shield for defending against flying debris from the front tire. Internal cable routing keeps the Checkpoint's hydraulic hoses tucked away from abrasive environments. There's room for even wider 700x45c tires for really challenging trails and surfaces.

The 12-speed SRAM Force eTap AXS drivetrain adds an extra piece of technology to an already high performance bike: Wireless shifting! By eliminating any wiring or cables between the shifters and derailleurs, the rider has one less thing to deal with during truly sloppy rides and adventures. SRAM's wireless eTap AXS shifting is literally lightning-quick. Every. Single. Time. Shifting under hard pedaling loads isn't a problem anymore, and the battery life between charges is usually between 500-600 miles. The lithium-ion batteries mounted on each derailleur can be removed and charged off the bike, making storage more convenient. The Crockett 5 Disc was built with cyclocross racing in mind. That being said, all of the Crockett models serve any rider well if they're looking for a spring training bike or "low-intensity gravel" bike. The Crockett 5 Disc is the most affordable machine, built around a hydroformed 300 Series Alpha aluminum frame and all-carbon fork. The frame's tubes have been hydroformed, keeping weight low and torsional strength high. The top tube is flattened, making for easier shouldering on muddy run-ups. Trek's Invisible Weld technology not only looks fantastic, but reduces overall frame weight. Control Freak internal cable routing keeps the Crockett 5 Disc looking clean as well as protecting the derailleur cable from dirt and water. A tapered head tube anchors the large down tube effectively, adding an extra level of handling precision during high-speed corners and descents. The threaded T47 bottom bracket ensures flex-free power delivery with every pedal stroke; a critical attribute when charging uphill towards the finish line. The Crockett's 12mm rear thru-axle enhances the strength of the bike's rear triangle, reducing lateral flex in the frame. The Crockett 5's Cross fork is not only light (due to being a fully carbon fiber build from steerer to dropouts), but also soaks up fatiguing vibration. A single 40T chainring is mounted on an alloy Praxis Alba M30 crankset, offering low rotating weight and excellent torsional strength when putting the power down. An endurance road bicycle should not only be light and quick, but also comfortable. A fresher rider can push the pedals longer and also be more mentally alert to avoid accidents and navigation errors. The Domane SLR 8 boasts a technology exclusive to Trek bicycles: IsoSpeed. By allowing the bike to flex vertically under the rider better than any other endurance road bike made today, the Domane SLR is the clear leader in the category. The rear IsoSpeed unit on the Domane SLR is adjustable, allowing the bike to be set up better for a wider range of rider weights, ride quality needs and expected changed in riding surfaces. A single allen wrench is all that's required to move the slider at the back of the seat tube up or down, changing the compliance of the no-cut Ride Tuned seatmast. Cool, huh? Up front, there's an IsoSpeed unit at the top of the head tube, giving the handlebars extra compliance when traversing rough and choppy pavement.

If the bike didn't fit well, all this means nothing. Trek built every Domane bicycle with Endurance fit and geometry, allowing a wider range of riders -and rider flexibilities- to get comfortable. A tall head tube and slightly lower bottom bracket in a given frame size allows less flexible (and shorter-legged) riders to fit with fewer component swaps and adjustments.

The whole frame of the Domane SLR is built around effective transmission of the rider's power into forward motion. Trek starts with their proprietary OCLV 600 Series carbon fiber for the Domane SLR's frame and fork construction. This material is a "recipe" of different carbon fiber materials strategically placed to add strength where needed, and add compliance in the right places for improved rider comfort. Shaping that carbon fiber allows the Domane SLR to be incredibly effective at delivering power from the crankset to the rear wheel without energy-robbing flex in the frame. Where the Domane SLR excels is in the frame's compliance over rough pavement, potholes and even cobblestones. Featuring the same IsoSpeed technology found on the first-gen Domane, the Domane SLR boasts a new twist for better ride quality for a wider range of riders: Adjustablility. This Domane SLR features a slider at the back of the seat tube that can be adjusted in the field using a simple torque wench. By moving the slider up or down, the seatmast becomes more or less flexible, soaking up rough and choppy pavement. In fact, the Domane SLR can be made more compliant than the original Domane 6-series by 14%. When moving the slider up to the top of the limit, the rear of the bike can be made stiffer, allowing better road feel during sweeping descents and turns on more civilized tarmac. The Domane SLR's fork has also gone through a revolution with front IsoSpeed. By adding a decoupler hidden at the top of the fork's steerer tube, the Domane SLR has 10% greater compliance than the previous version (which was pretty comfy to begin with), keeping the rider's hands, arms and shoulders more comfortable. The Domane SLR's BB90 bottom bracket offers a super-stiff anchor for the bike's crankset, returning every watt of power that the rider puts into it. A tapered head tube also adds precision to the bike's handling in high-speed turns and under hard braking. The Domane SLR 6 sees direct-mount brake caliber installation that all but eliminates lateral flex in the caliper, improving brake lever feel and brake pad life.

Making the Domane SLR perform better than the previous version was only the start. Trek wanted to keep all the details that helped make the 1st-gen Domane so complete, like the aperture for a DuoTrap S speed/cadence sensor in the left chainstay that eliminates the need for ugly zip-ties. The Domane SLR also keeps the removeable fender mounts for riders in wet climates and seasons. There's even an integrated adjustable 3S chain keeper that prevents a dropped chain on broken pavement and potholes. The same seatmast cap found on the previous Domane (and current Emonda SL and SLR) is used on the Domane SLR. This is just one example of how Trek will improve a part of a bike without throwing away well-engineered technology from previous designs.
