The Checkpoint SLR bicycles from Trek are gravel machines for the most demanding rider and racer. Light weight, precise handling and brilliant components are brought together to make every mile smoother and faster on Trek's best version of the Checkpoint. The frameset is built with Trek's exclusive 700 Series OCLV carbon fiber. Originally used to build the Emonda SLR featherwight road racer, 700 Series OCLV ensures very low overall weight. The Checkpoint SLR, however, can handle rugged gravel, dirt roads and cobblestones with ease. With clearance for tires up to 45mm and mounts for bottle cages and frame bags, adventure is always the goal. Storing a tire repair kit is easy, thanks to a storage compartment inside the down tube. The IsoSpeed decoupler found at the seat tube/top tube juncture will soak up washboard hardpan, railway crossings and potholes with ease. An integrated damper keeps the decoupler from bouncing the rider around. For 2022, every Checkpoint was built with updated geometry. Called "progressive geometry" in mountain bike circles, the frame's top tube is slightly longer, moving the front wheel ahead of the rider's center of gravity. Sketchy descents and crumbly surfaces can be attacked with greater confidence. A shorter stem and short-reach handlebar keeps the bike's cockpit fit identical to previous models.
The Checkpoint SLR 6 eTap is built with SRAM's 12-speed electronic Rival eTap AXS drivetrain. With eTap shifting, every shift is always perfect. There are no cables or housing to adjust or replace. The rechargeable battery on the rear derailleur will run for up to 500 miles between charges. The long-cage Rival eTap AXS XPLR rear derailleur shifts brilliantly across the 10-44T SRAM cassette, even under hard pedaling loads. The Rival eTap AXS wireless shifters can be programmed for righties or lefties, and the battery charge levels for all AXS components can be monitored with a SRAM AXS smartphone app. The Checkpoint SLR 6 eTap's 40T single-ring SRAM Rival AXS crankset features a wireless power meter. Power meters aid in training, or just to help keep track of your calories burned when paired with a smartphone app.
The wheels of any bicycle are critical for making every mile faster. Bontrager's tubeless Aeolus Pro 3V wheels -complete with OCLV carbon fiber rims- accelerate out of corners easily, yet are robust enough for chunky camping trails and singletrack. A 25mm interior rim width allows gravel tires to spread out, improving grip and keeping rolling resistance low. The rim's 30mm Dual Directional Design (or D3) profile and straight-pull bladed spokes help to slice through headwinds while remaining stable in crosswinds. A Rapid Drive 108 rear freehub all but eliminates "free play", giving a rider instant power delivery. Bontrager also supplies the tubeless GR1 Team Issue 700x40c gravel tires, bringing boatloads of grip to every fast corner and descent. SRAM Rival flat-mount hydraulic disc brakes boast confident stopping power in all conditions, rain or shine.
Bontrager also supplies the P3 Verse Elite saddle, accessory-ready alloy Pro Blendr stem and Pro IsoCore VR-SF handlebars. The OCLV carbon fiber handlebars soak up vibration exceptionally well along with EVA IsoZone pads under the handlebar tape.
A SRAM AXS battery charger and internal storage bag are included with the purchase of this bicycle.
