Trek Speed Concept SLR 7
$9,700.00
The long-awaited redesign of the Speed Concept is here! This version is a clean-sheet-of-paper design, with improvements found throughout the bike. The best place to improve any bicycle is to build it with cutting-edge materials. Trek's latest 800 Series OCLV carbon fiber is their lightest and strongest composite material they've ever produced, allowing the engineers to run wild with highly aerodynamic frame shapes. The Speed Concept's KVF (or Kammtail Virtual Foil) frame profile has been proven to cut drag while reducing instability in crosswinds. The new Speed Concept is so much better than the previous version, it can cut 6 minutes off a rider's Kona Ironman time compared to the previous Speed Concept, which was no slouch in that department! Several details have been updated to make the new Speed Concept more aero, including dropped seat stay/seat tube junctures and a reshaped down tube to allow for smoother airflow. Trek added another proven piece of technology to the Speed Concept SLR that will make every mile better: IsoSpeed. The IsoSpeed decoupler at the seat post/top tube juncture soaks up harsh pavement, potholes and railway crossings without breaking a sweat. This version is equipped with a damper that all but eliminates that "pogo stick" feel on repeating washboard surfaces. Most deep-profile aero frames are notorious for rattling a rider's teeth loose, but not the new Speed Concept. Onboard storage has been given an overhaul, with the inclusion of a large integrated top tube compartment. The covered compartment liner has dividers, and is removable for cleanup in a dishwasher. The Speed Concept's down tube also features an integrated storage compartment for a flat repair kit under the bottle mounts. Shimano's latest 12-speed Ultegra Di2 components are found throughout the new Speed Concept, including a 52/36T crankset, 11-30T cassette, chain and derailleurs. This version of Ultegra Di2 features wireless shift buttons on the aero bars and the base bars. By removing any shifter-to-derailleur wiring or cables, the new Speed Concept is easier to use and service. The derailleurs are connected to a single battery inside the frame, and are charged through a port at the back of the rear derailleur. The battery charge life is still between 900-1,000 miles. If you're considering installing an 11-34T 12-speed Shimano road cassette for really challenging courses, the new Ultegra Di2 derailleur will still function perfectly. Shifting is done with buttons on the aero bars and on the Shimano Dura-Ace hydraulic brake levers on the base bar. The carbon fiber aero bars and base bar on the Speed Concept have been redesigned to be much more adjustable and user-friendly. The distance between the aero bar's forearm pads can be adjusted by as much as 120mm, while the aero bar extensions can be extended by as much as 100mm. When using the same base bar, the aero bars can be raised and lowered by 85mm, making repositioning from low and aggressive to upright and comfortable a snap. The adjustment spacers are slotted, eliminating the need for recabling when making major adjustments. Only 3 common hex wrenches are needed for major adjustments, or removing the bars entirely for packing. Bontrager supplies the latest Aeolus Pro 51 wheelset for the Speed Concept SLR 7, making the wheels as fast as the rest of the machine. OCLV carbon fiber is used in the rim construction, ensuring very low weight for accelerating out of corners like a jet fighter off a carrier deck! The D3 (Dual Directional Design) rim profile is not only aero in a direct headwind, it remains stable in crosswinds. A 23mm inner rim width allows road rubber to spread out for better grip in high-speed turns. Bladed DT Aerolite spokes add an extra dash of aero savings. The wheels are tubeless-ready, allowing for the installation of the latest high-performance tires. The Aeolus Pro 51 wheels are shod with 700x25c Bontrager R3 hard-Case Lite tires. Shimano Dura-Ace hydraulic disc brakes help keep speed reigned in, even in wet and sloppy conditions. A Bontrager Hilo Comp saddle sits atop a carbon fiber Speed Concept SLR seatpost with a reversible saddle clamp. A Shimano Di2 charging cable is included with the purchase of this bicycle. This bicycle can be customized and purchased with Trek's Project One program. Thousands of combinations of colors, options and components can be chosen to make the bike uniquely your own. Our very first bike was made for one of the greatest triathletes in history—Paula Newby-Fraser—who rode her stealth black Felt B2 to multiple world championship victories. Since then, we've never stopped pursuing the ideal triathlon racing machine. The IA is the culmination of 30 years of iterative design and painstaking development, and its results at the highest level of competition speak for themselves. So we can tell you that the IA is the most aerodynamic bike in the world. We can also say that it's the best-handling triathlon bike on the planet. But what we should really mention is that the IA won the Kona World Championship a staggering six times in a row, and it holds both bike and overall course records across the lava fields of Hawaii. So, really, what else do you need to know?
