A gravel bike takes many forms, from lightweight racers to long-haul expedition machines. Many manufacturers build multi-surface bicycles, but the bikes from Gunnar are a special breed. Handcrafted from steel in Waterford, Wisconsin.
The frame of the Hyper-X is built with True Temper's OX Platinum chro-moly steel. This steel alloy offers a supple ride, while boasting light weight and outstanding durability. Up front, a 44mm head tube adds to the Hyper-X's handling precision, especially in technical terrain. A long wheelbase improves stability on rough surfaces. Out back, the Hyper-X features flat-mount disc brake mounts that reduce overall bike weight and reduce caliper twisting for better brake performance. A 12mm rear thru-axle ensures excellent hub alignment and higher torsional rigidity. Rack mounts, fender mounts and bottle cage bosses add versatility to the Hyper-X. The fork is an all-carbon Whisky Parts Co. unit, keeping overall weight low while soaking up fatiguing vibration over rough terrain. Multiple bottle mounts on the fork blades make preparing for multi-day gravel tours that much easier. The fork's flat-mount brake caliper installation and 12mm thru-axle dropouts keep the Hyper-X current.
Our in-stock Hyper-X is equipped with Shimano's excellent 11-speed 105 components. Power delivery is through an alloy 50/34T 105 compact crankset, while an 11-32T Shimano cassette boasts a wide gearing range. The latest version of Shimano's 105 derailleurs require less hand strength to operate, and feature shorter shifter throws. The rear derailleur is a Shadow-style unit with a more tucked-in profile that enhances shifting performance as well as being slightly more aero. The front derailleur's cage is tapered to allow installation of wider tires as well. Bontrager supplies the tubeless-ready alloy Paradigm Comp wheels, bringing durability and light weight to the Hyper-X. The rims feature a 21mm interior width, allowing a given tire to spread out for a better "footprint". Meaty 700x43c tubeless-ready Panaracer GravelKing SK tires boast plenty of grip on crumbling surfaces. Shimano hydraulic 105 disc brakes provide excellent stopping power in all conditions, rain or shine. The Hyper-X's cockpit is also from Bontrager, including the Verse Comp road saddle, seatpost, alloy Elite road handlebar and accessory-ready Elite Blendr stem.
