Giant brings value to every performance road bicycle they make. The Defy Advanced 1 is no exception!
Can performance and value truly co-exist in a road bicycle? The Defy Advanced 1 demonstrates this with a featherweight Advanced Composite carbon fiber frame, Shimano's latest version of their Ultegra components, and lightweight tubeless alloy wheels. The closer you look at the details of this bicycle, the more it will win you over. Giant's own Advanced-Grade Composite carbon fiber is used with a specific layup to keep weight to a minimum while enhancing torsional strength. The frame design also makes every pedal stroke matter. A tapered OverDrive head tube and massive PowerCore bottom bracket anchor the faceted down tube for instant power transfer and razor-sharp handling. High-speed turns and descents can be attacked with confidence that the bike will go where you point it! Internal cable routing and flat-mount disc brake installation keep the Defy Advanced 1 looking clean and sleek. 12mm thru-axle dropouts align the brake rotors perfectly when installing wheels, as well as adding an extra dash of handling precision. Need a more upright fit? The tall head tube and relaxed geometry makes it easy for a wider range of riders -and rider flexibilities- to get comfortable on the Defy Advanced 1. Looking for even wider rubber than the 32mm stock tires? The Defy Advanced 1 will take up to 35mm tires for really rough roads or hardpan gravel.
Shimano's high-performance Ultegra components have been impressing us for years with incredible durability, lightning-quick operation and very light weight. Those components are found throughout the drivetrain of the Defy Advanced 1, including the dual-control levers, front derailleur, long-cage Shadow-style rear derailleur and wide-range 11-34T cassette. The Ultegra rear derailleur is their clutch-equipped long-cage "RX" version. It does a fantastic job of keeping the chain on the crankset, and not flying off when clattering over railway crossings or potholes. Shimano's mountain bike components have been featuring similar technology for years, and it works like a charm! A Shimano 50/34T compact crankset does power delivery duty.
Rolling stock consists of Giant's own P-R2 Disc tubeless alloy wheels and 700x32c Gavia Fondo 1 tubeless tires. There's plenty of stopping power to be found on the Defy Advanced 1 with Shimano Ultegra hydraulic disc brakes. Rain or shine, disc brakes are always better performers. A Giant Approach saddle, alloy Contact stem and D-Fuse SL road handlebar complete this exceptional road bike.
Take a look back at the price tag and you'll agree that performance doesn't have to be expensive.
