Off-road riding can be pretty challenging, and not everyone has the inherent fitness to climb every mountain despite riding an outstanding machine. The Powerfly 4 is there for everyone else who wants to experience the outdoors. This example is from the far side of the Atlantic, making it unique! The specifications are slightly different from the U.S. version, but the idea is the same.

Trek has designed a high-performance hardtail mountain bike with one purpose: Make every trail and ascent easier with a Bosch power-assist motor. Powered by a 625Wh Li-Ion battery, the Bosch Performance CX motor can crank out up to 85Nm of torque, giving the rider a serious boost (much more than our e-hybrids will do!) , even up steep inclines. That boost is adjustable with 4 levels of assistance. The system is engaged only when the rider is actually pedaling, and the power cuts out when the bike goes faster than 15mph. Range can be up to 70 miles, depending on hills, trail surfaces, rider weight, headwinds and other factors.  The Bosch Purion display on the right side of the handlebars gives expected range, assist level, speed, distance and time of ride.

The Powerfly's Alpha Platinum aluminum frame allows the Bosch battery to nestle inside the downtube, keeping the center of gravity low and freeing up space in the frame's main triangle for water bottles. Called RIB for Removable Integrated Battery, the lockable battery mount keeps the Powerfly 4 looking sleek and clean. The adjustable Suntour XCM 34 suspension fork can be dialed for a rider's weight, riding style or trail surface. There's even a lockout knob to shut off the fork when riding on pavement or gravel. A single-ring 10-speed Shimano Deore drivetrain makes shifting  lightning-quick, with a massive 11-46T Shimano cassette for tackling challenging terrain. Tektro HD-M275 hydraulic disc brakes bring confident stopping power in all conditions, rain or shine (or mud). Alloy Bontrager Connection wheels are shod with meaty 29x2.30" Bontrager XR3 Comp tires, bringing plenty of grip to loose surfaces. The "furniture" for the Powerfly 4 is straightforward: A comfy Bontrager Commuter Comp saddle mounted on an alloy Bontrager 2-bolt seatpost and an alloy Bontrager handlebar and stem. The stem is accessory-ready, with mounts for a front light or handlebar computer (both sold separately). Bontrager XR Endurance Comp lock-on grips offer a positive feel under the hands.
