With all the choices in performance wheel sets these days, it can get pretty confusing. Is there one wheel to rule them all? Bontrager seems to think so, and does it at a surprisingly low price.
The Aeolus Pro 37 Disc wheelset brings proven construction to the game, using Trek's proprietary OCLV carbon fiber for the rim construction. The new shape and profile of the rim was refined with Computational Fluid Dynamics (or CFD) and wind tunnel testing. The overall drag of the Pro 37 Disc wheelset is better than the old Pro 3 Disc wheelset, while still lighter by an impressive 105 grams. Bladed, double-butted straight-pull spokes slice the wind like a hot cinder through jell-o. The label "all-rounder" starts to look pretty accurate...
Tubeless road tires have demonstrated lower rolling resistance and greater reliability. As more tubeless tires become available, the wheelsets they're installed on need to be compatible. The Aeolus Pro 37's are tubeless ready, with included TLR rim strips and gasketed valve stems. The rim features a 21mm interior width, allowing a wide range of tubeless tire sizes to spread out their contact patch on road (and gravel) surfaces, enhancing lateral grip. The Aeolus Pro 37's 11-speed freehub boasts DT Swiss 350 internals, enhancing durability and engagement. Powerful riders and sprinters will appreciate the solid feel with every acceleration!
Bontrager Carbon Care offers a lifetime warranty and a 2-year free repair and replacement guarantee for the original owners of their Aeolus Pro wheels, bringing peace of mind for first-time carbon fiber wheel buyers.

Carbon fiber wheels used to be only about aerodynamics. The Aeolus Pro 3 adds so much more to your ride...
The deeper the rim depth, the faster the wheel, right? Not in every condition. The engineers at Trek and Bontrager examined a wide range of rim profiles and rim cross sections to develop a wheelset that resisted gusting crosswinds as well as producing very low drag. Since the tire is always part of the aerodynamic equation, Trek's engineers looked at it as a useful element. The result is a more bullet-nosed rim profile they call Dual Directional Design (or D3) that uses the tire as part of the wheelset's aerodynamic profile. Crosswinds are always a concern, especially for lighter riders and triathletes trying to maintain an aero prosition without tensing up. The D3 profile is effective at reducing instability, even with the Aeolus Pro 5's 50mm deep rim.
All this aerodynamic development does no good at all if the wheels weigh too much. That's where the materials team at Trek went to work with their own carbon fiber "recipe": OCLV carbon fiber. OCLV (Optimum Compaction Low Void) is the name given to Trek's proprietary carbon fiber and how it is constructed for light weight and impressive strength. Straight-pull bladed stainless steel spokes are laced to the Aeolus Pro 5's alloy hubs, giving the wheels extra aerodynamic sleekness. The Aeolus Pro 5's are robust as well as lightweight, bringing confidence to every mile covered with them. Total wheelset weight before tires, tubes and cassette: 1720 grams
Low rolling resistance is the new method of adding speed, and the recent crop of tubeless tires does away with inner tubes. This eliminates another element of rolling resistance, helping the rider to maintain a given speed. The Aeolus Pro 5's are tubeless-ready, and come with tubeless rim strips and gasketed valve stems. We have a wide selection of tubeless-ready tires here at Machinery Row Bicycles if you want to make the leap.
