Details

The Madone 9-series is the result of an evolutionary process of making a bike that needs very little energy to slice though the air. The previous generation Madone was still somewhat aero, but not like this! Aerodynamic shaping is seen at all points on the frameset, from the tapered fork tips to the IsoSpeed seatmast to the bladed seatstays. The flat-backed aero profiles of the frame tubes and fork blades are known as Kammtail Virtual Foil, or KVF. This keeps drag numbers very low, but still handles crosswinds brilliantly. If you don't see any cables, you're not supposed to. Everything is tucked inside the frame and one-piece bar/stem combination for incredibly low drag numbers. The Bontrager brake calipers are clevery integrated into the frame, with a moving "trapdoor" on either side of the head tube to allow for tight turns. Ride comfort hasn't been forgotten about. In fact, it was obsessed over. The Madone 9-series boasts the same isoSpeed decoupler at the seat tube/top tube juncture as the Domane, adding a smooth ride quality that most other road bikes -much less other aero bikes- will never match.

The Madone features much of the same "architecture" found in many other successful frame designs, such as a tapered E2 head tube and press-fit BB90 bottom bracket. Keeping the Madone 9-series' aero numbers low is also the job of small details, such as an aperture in the left chainstay for a DuoTrap S speed/cadence sensor (sold separately) that eliminates the need for "dirty" zip-ties.

Shimano's 11-speed Ultegra R8000 components are found across the Madone 9-Series, from the derailleurs to the 50/34T compact crankset to the dual-control levers. Long service life, light weight and precise operation make Ultegra components a solid choice for racers and performance riders alike. An 11-28T Shimano Ultegra cassette brings a generous gearing range for attacking challenging courses.

Bontrager provides the rolling stock to the Madone 9-Series, with lightweight tubeless-ready alloy Paradigm wheels. 700x25c Bontrager R2 Hard-Case Lite tires add confident grip during high-speed turns and descents. The Madone's one-piece OCLV carbon fiber handlebar/stem combo is very aero as well as light. A Bontrager Montrose saddle completes this super-sleek speed machine.
