Trek's proprietary OCLV Mountain carbon fiber frame helps bring the bike's overall weight down, making it an excellent choice on roller-coaster singletrack. Trek's Active Braking Pivot -or ABP- rear suspension geometry handles small bumps and big hits with equal aplomb. The Slash 9.8's main triangle is OCLV Mountain carbon fiber, but so is the rear triangle. Most long-travel full-suspension machines are built with aluminum rear triangles for durability, but the Slash 9.8's OCLV Mountain carbon fiber keeps the overall weight even lower while substantially increasing the rear triangle's rigidity and rugged construction. Perfect for a smooth, confident feel on endless downhills on technical surfaces. Enhancing the strength of the "Chassis" are several more details:
- A tapered 1-1/8"-to-1-1/2" Tapered head tube/steerer tube interface provides razor-sharp handling in the twisties

The suspension for the Slash 9.8 GX is equally impressive. Up front, an air-adjustable RockShox ZEB Select+ fork boasts 170mm of travel, making short work of stair-step descents and hard hits. The ZEB's new 38mm chassis improves torsional and lateral strength, adding an extra dose of razor-sharpness to every curve and turn, no matter how rough the surface is. A tuneable rebound and 110 Boost hub spacing makes the ZEB Select+ an excellent choice for day-long adventures on challenging singletrack. Out back, the latest RockShox Super Deluxe Ultimate shock is also air-adjustable with one-hand rebound adjustment and a Thru Shaft 3-position damper. When installed in the Slash 9.8 GX's ABP rear suspension, it brings 160mm of travel to the party. Unique Thru-shaft architecture enhances shock response to be much faster than any other suspension, enhancing control on uneven and technical terrain, especially when taken at speed. The Slash 9.8 GX does more than just gravity-powered speed off road. It can handle climbs and twisting trails with the best of them. SRAM's 12-speed GX Eagle shifter and rear derailleur handle shifting duties across a massive 10-52T XG-1275 Eagle cassette. A single-ring SRAM GX Eagle crankset with an X-SYNC 30T chainring transfers power with flex-free efficiency. Tubeless Bontrager Line Elite 30 OCLV Mountain carbon fiber wheels feature rims with a 29mm interior width, allowing wide tires to perform better with a broader contact profile. A Rapid Drive 108 rear hub all but eliminates the "free play" delay between a turning crank and the rear hub engaging; useful when powering out of multiple technical turns. The tires are Bontrager's tubeless Bontrager SE4 Team Issue model. A cut-resistant Core Strength sidewall, aggressive tread and a 29x2.40" size make them ideal for unparalleled control on rocky, chunky singletrack. Equally impressive are the SRAM Code R 4-piston hydraulic disc brakes with massive rotors that perform in all conditions, rain or shine (or mud). A Bontrager Line Elite dropper post is operated with a bar-mount lever, while an alloy Bontrager Line Pro stem grabs the OCLV carbon fiber Line Pro handlebar with a meaty 35mm clamp.
