The Trek Emonda series has pushed the envelope in lightness and performance. This version adds disc brakes.
When Trek set out to produce an ultralight bike, they did so for every price category in the Emonda range. From first-time road riders to experienced pros, the Emonda delivers light weight and high performance for everyone. Adding disc brakes and keeping the Emonda's legendary lightness wasn't an easy task, but Trek succeeded. By adding flat-mount disc brake caliper installation and thru-axles, the frameset of the Emonda SL 6 Pro remains light whilst improving performance in an underrated parameter: Braking.
Trek utilized their proprietary 500 Series OCLV carbon fiber when they built the Emonda SL frame, producing an astonishingly light and nimble chassis. The Ride Tuned seat mast and cap replaces the commonly-found seatpost and frame combination, reducing weight and improving ride quality. A tapered head tube and threaded T47 bottom bracket improve the frame's torsional strength; perfect for a bike used in attacking steep ascents while out of the saddle. The H1.5 fit provides a more comfortable fit with a less aggressive head tube, allowing a wider range of riders -and rider flexibilities- to get comfortable. Aerodynamic frame shaping seen on the Madone and Speed Concept known as KVF -or Kammtail Virtual Foil- is found throughout the Emonda SL 6 Pro, adding an extra dash of speed with less effort. Internal cable routing and an aperture in the left chainstay for a DuoTrap S speed/cadence sensor (sold separately) gives the Emonda SL 6 Pro a sleek look. A fully carbon fiber fork shares the 12mm thru-axle hub installation with the rear dropouts, ensuring perfect brake rotor alignment.
Shimano updated its high-performance Ultregra components, producing the new R8000-series for road bicycles. Several component updates make the Emonda SL 6 Pro a better performer in every way, not just in braking.
- A revised dual-control Ultegra lever and hood shape that is more comfortable with an updated texture and greater lever reach adjustment
- The Shadow-style Ultegra rear derailleur has a wider gearing capacity, and is also more aero
- A reshaped front derailleur with a tapered cage allows a wider rear tire to be used
- The compact crankset is torsionally stiffer while reducing aero drag
Bontrager's OCLV carbon fiber Aeolus Elite 35 wheelset reduces weight by eliminating the braking track. Tipping the scales at only 1685 grams, the Aeolus Elite wheels can help a rider accelerate up any climb with much less effort. A 35mm rim depth features a D3 (Dual Directional Design) that shrugs off gusty crosswinds better as well as reducing outright drag. The 700x25c Bontrager R2 Hard-Case Lite tires grip the pavement, especially in high-speed turns and descents. Wider rubber can be fitted, thanks to the generous frame and fork clearances. Shimano's latest flat-mount version of their Shimano Ultegra disc brakes offers comfident stopping power in all conditions, rain or shine. New Shimano Ultegra rotors in a generous 160mm size disperse heat better than ever. Bontrager also supplies the Aeolus Comp saddle, accessory-ready alloy Pro stem and alloy Elite VR-C road handlebar.
