Everyone looking to buy a nice road bike will walk over and actually pick it up, regardless of price. How light is it...really?
They want to know if the bike will help them fly up the hills or drag them back down. The Emonda SL 5 will certainly impress in the low weight department. But there are other elements that will impress...
Lightness is key, but a bike that fits badly, feels rubbery in the corners and clumsy while shifting isn't worth the investment. The Emonda SL 5's tall H2 head tube provides a more upright fit in a given frame size, allowing a wider range of riders to get comfortable. Yeah, we got you covered in the fit department. The 500 Series OCLV carbon fiber used throughout the Emonda SL's frame not only keeps the bike feather-light, but enhances the torsional strength, allowing the bike to feel quick and responsive to every pedal stroke. The aformentioned H2 head tube is tapered, adding an extra dash of razor-sharp precision in tight and twisty turns and descents. The seat post has been replaced with a lighter no-cut Ride Tuned seat mast and cap system that improves ride quality over rough and choppy pavement.
The Emonda SL 5's components are Shimano's latest "R7000" series of their venerable 11-speed 105 parts group. Refinement is found everywhere from shifters to brakes to the crankset. The dual-control levers shift easier than ever, and the lever reach adjustment accomodates smaller hands. The lever hoods are also updated with a better texture that improves grip and hand comfort. The redesigned 50/34T compact crankset mirrors the shape and design of Shimano's pro-level Dura-Ace crankset, giving the Emonda SL 5 a sleek, racy look. Don't be put off by the funky Shadow-style 105 rear derailleur; it shifts better under load and even stays tucked out of the wind. The direct-mount 105 brake calipers offer better lever feedback and improved stopping power as well.
The Emonda SL 5's Bontrager Affinity wheels are tubeless-ready, and are wrapped with 700x25c Bontrager R1 Hard-Case Lite tires for exceptional handling and a smooth ride over rough pavement. Bontrager also supplies the Ajna Comp women's saddle and short-reach Comp VR-S road handlebars. An accessory-ready alloy Elite Blendr stem finishes off this excellent road machine.
