This is Trek's best century warrior and cobblestone conquerer. The Domane SLR 9 brings pro-level performance and class-leading comfort to day-long adventures.
No corners were cut on the Domane SLR 9. Every component was obsessed over, right down to the tubeless carbon fiber wheels and tires. The heart of the Domane SLR 9 is a brilliant frameset that redefines what an endurance road bike should be. Constructed of Trek's exclusive 700 Series OCLV carbon fiber, the frameset does the job of instant flex-free power delivery with every pedal stroke. Charging uphill over cobblestones at the Tour of Flanders is what this bike was made for. A new T47 threaded bottom bracket anchors the crankset, all but eliminating annoying creaks. The Domane SLR's adjustable rear IsoSpeed decoupler soaks up impacts from rough and choppy pavement, railway crossings and potholes with ease. A slider under the top tube can be adjusted out on the road with two tools, so getting the feel just right is easy. A second IsoSpeed decoupler is found at the top of the headset, reducing the effects of road harshness at the handlebars. Wide tires are already found on the Domane SLR 9, 32mm Bontrager R3's to be precise. But if you need wider treaded rubber, tires up to 38mm can be installed. If you need to make a roadside repair, you can store your toolkit in the compartment in the Domane SLR's downtube. This allows the Domane SLR to have a lower center of gravity, as well as eliminating weight at the top of the bike that is much more noticeable when climbing or sprinting out of the saddle. The overall fit of the Domane SLR is more upright than traditional performance road bikes, allowing a wider range of riders -and rider flexibilities- to get comfortable.
Shimano's latest 12-speed Dura-Ace R9200 components are found throughout the Domane SLR 9. With an upgraded Hyperglide+ chain and 11-34T Dura-Ace Hyperglide+ cassette, the shifting precision of Dura-Ace Di2 components is somehow even better! Shifting speed of both derailleurs is faster, delivering instant gear changes and even extending chain life. Every shift is perfect. Every. Single. Time.Yes, the Dura-Ace Di2 rear derailleur will accommodate an 11-34T cassette to accompany the 50/34T Dura-Ace compact crankset. Hilly century riders rejoice! With a tightly packaged front derailleur, Shadow-style rear derailleur, and a flattened crankset, Dura-Ace Di2 components show very little to the wind. A single rechargeable battery powers both derailleurs, and is installed inside the frame and out of the weather. Recharging is done at the back of the rear derailleur. The Dura-Ace Di2 dual-control levers have an upgraded shape as well, making long rides more comfortable. The lever reach is remains adjustable, allowing riders will smaller hands and shorter fingers to better control braking. The two shift buttons on each lever are now slightly stepped, improving feel when wearing heavy gloves in cold conditions. The levers transmit their orders to the derailleur wirelessly, eliminating routing issues from the levers to the drivetrain. A battery in each lever will keep them running for about a year. The levers will also transmit gear position data to Garmin and Wahoo GPS computers, too. Cool, huh?
The Domane SLR 9's wheelset plays a major role in the bike's overall performance. Bontrager's Aeolus RSL 37 wheels are tubeless ready, allowing the use of today's best high-performance rubber. A 37mm rim depth not only helps slice though the wind with ease, the Dual Directional Design (or D3) profile resists buffeting crosswinds. Trek used their brilliant OCLV carbon fiber to construct the rims, refining the shape and keeping overall weight very low. How low? Only 1325 grams a set! Bontrager Aeolus RSL 37 wheels allow a rider to leap out of every corner and accelerate with less effort than heavier wheelsets. The aforementioned tubeless Bontrager R3 700x32c tires bring durability and very low rolling resistance to the table. Shimano Dura-Ace hydraulic disc brakes are not only outstanding in the rain, but also feature excellent brake lever feedback in all conditions, wet or dry.
The Domane SLR 9's cockpit was also obsessed over, starting with a Bontrager Pro IsoCore VR-SF road handlebar. By using OCLV carbon fiber sandwiching an elastomer layer, the handlebar soaks up fatiguing high-frequency vibration 20% better than a classic carbon fiber handlebar. The short-reach design allows for easier fitting as well. An alloy Bontrager Pro Blendr stem can accept plenty of accessories, including a Garmin computer, Ion headlight or a phone mount. The Bontrager Verse Pro saddle weighs about 185 grams, and still features comfortable padding, a full-length cutout, and plenty of rail length to get a perfect position.
A Shimano charging cable is included with the purchase of this bicycle.
