Technology mixed with decades of engineering experience at Trek has led us to awesome machines like this. Trek's 500 Series OCLV carbon fiber makes up the frame, producing a very light chassis. Need even wider tires? The Checkpoint SL 6 will take rubber up to 45mm wide, thanks to a roomy fork and a clever "dropped" drive-side chainstay. Got plenty of stuff? Rack mounts, fender mounts and up to 4 bottle mounts let you install all kinds of bags and accessories for multi-day adventures. Are the "roads" barely worthy of the name? The Checkpoint SL 6 has your back with an IsoSpeed decoupler and Ride Tuned seatmast at the top of the seat tube/top tube juncture. This allows the frame and seatmast to comfortably flex when attacking washboard hardpan, pavement transitions and railway crossings. A stable geometry and a low bottom bracket add confidence on loose surfaces. That comfort doesn't come at the cost of handling and torsional strength, though. A tapered head tube and rock-solid BB90 bottom bracket adds strength for precise handling and flex-free power delivery. An adjustable Strangehold thru-axle rear dropout can adjust the wheelbase by as much as 15mm, offering a longer wheelbase for stability, or a shorter wheelbase for the more classic feel of a road bike. Loose surfaces can mean lots of "roost" from spinning tires, but the Checkpoint SL's Carbon Armor will protect the downtube's bottom from flying stones. Front and rear 12mm thru-axles bring an extra dash of torsional strength for razor-sharp handling.
The Checkpoint SL 6 is equipped with Shimano's latest 11-speed GRX RX810 components, adding precise operation, excellent durability and very low weight to the bike. The hoods of the dual-control levers have been reshaped and retextured, giving the rider better grip while reach adjustability has been kept for riders with smaller hands. The new rear GRX derailleur boasts a Shadow-style low profile design and a clutch brought over from mountain biking. The lever-operated clutch helps prevent chain drops and chain slap on rough terrain. The Shadow-style rear derailleur requires less hand strength to operate and is also less likely to get snagged by trail-side branches and rocks. The front derailleur is also redesigned, with the same toggle-style mechanism found on Ultegra cable-operated units. The trimmed tail of the front derailleur's cage adds clearance for wider tires on a short-wheelbase bike. Flat-mount GRX RX810 hydraulic disc brakes add confident stopping power in all conditions as well as excellent lever feedback. The stainless steel and aluminum IceTech Freeza rotors disperse heat much faster than all-steel rotors; helpful when descending fast while loaded down with cargo. A 48/31T GRX HollowTech2 compact crankset and 11-34T Shimano HG800 cassette boasts a huge gearing range for challenging climbs and steep descents on less-than-perfect surfaces.
Bontrager's Paradigm Comp 25 alloy wheelset is tubeless-ready and weighs only 1675 grams (that is not a misprint). These durable wheels are laced with 24 stainless steel spokes each, and are ready to take on gravel fire roads with Bontrager's 700x40c GR1 Team Issue tubeless-ready tires. The 25mm internal width of the rims allow the tires to spread out for better grip and handling on gravel and hardpan. The Bontrager rear thru-axle hub is equipped with a Rapid Drive 54 freehub, allowing faster engagement with every pedal stroke. A Bontrager Arvada Comp saddle offers a comfy perch for multi-hour (or multi-day) rides and races. An accessory-ready alloy Bontrager Pro Blendr stem and alloy Bontrager Elite IsoZone VR-CF road handlebar complete the cockpit of this gravel-conquering masterpiece.
