Welcome to the finest pair of road cycling shoes that Shimano has ever made. A fully carbon fiber sole has been mated to an ultralight microfiber upper, making the RC9 only only 235 grams per shoe. The microfiber upper is built around the bottom of the sole in a classic technique called "slip-last", ensuring a brilliant fit. Strategic ventilation is designed into the uppers with perforations that don't compromise the fit or feel of the upper. Dual low-profile BOA® Li2 dials allow for perfect adjustment in both directions while securing the rider's foot. The Powerzone wire guides at the forefoot add an extra dash of fitting precision. The interior of the heel cup is padded, but is still plenty stiff for retention on the upstroke. Even the carbon fiber sole has a hollow structure to eliminate weight while keeping rigidity high.
How rigid? Even Mathieu van der Poel couldn't get them to crack when he topped 1300 watts as he won the hilly Strada Bianchi classic in Italy. The sole's 3-bolt pattern has a wider range of fore-aft adjustability, allowing a wider range of foot shapes to get a perfect cleat placement. There are even drainage holes for riding in rainy conditions. Cool, huh?
