The TCR Advanced SL is Giant's flagship performance machine. Insanely low weight has always been a part of the TCR Advanced SL's origins. Better climbing, quicker acceleration and effortless handling makes the TCR Advanced SL an easy choice for everyone wanting more speed. Or just less effort for every mile covered.
The TCR Advanced SL has gone through a top-to-bottom performance upgrade since the last Grand-Tour-winning TCR was released. Giant continues to refine their Advanced SL Composite carbon fiber "recipe", making every aspect of the bike perform better: Lighter weight, higher strength and a better ride quality were all considered when improving an already world-beating racing machine. Even the Composite's resin got an upgrade with Carbon Nanotube Technology that improves impact resistance. The frame is 140 grams lighter for this version, making a light bike even lighter. Subtle changes to the bike's aerodynamics were added for 2021, improving airflow in crosswinds and well as reducing drag in headwinds. The head tube, down tube and fork all got slipperier in the quest for easier speed. The frame's reshaping also allowed more creative carbon fiber layups, improving the already impressive torsional stiffness that makes the TCR Advanced SL a sprinter's dream machine. A 1-1/2"-to-1-1/4" tapered OverDrive 2 head tube offers a massive anchor point for the reshaped down tube, improving high-speed handling. The PowerCore press-fit bottom bracket keeps the class-leading stiffness from the last generation, ensuring no energy is wasted when stomping on the pedals. The seat stays and seat "mast" of the TCR Advanced SL were also rethought for better frame compliance and ride quality compared to the previous design. The seat mast design also subtracts around 45 grams from a critical high point on the bike compared to a classic seat post and frame. Out-of-the-saddle efforts simply require less effort when swaying the bike from side to side during a sprint or steep climb. The longer of the two alloy seat mast caps -the part that holds the saddle rails- still has 50mm of adjustability after being cut to allow for the use of different saddles and different shoe/pedal system combinations. The fit and geometry of the TCR Advanced SL remains unchanged, offering razor-sharp handling and an aggressive posture that racers demand. With flat-mount disc brakes comes better tire clearance, and the TCR Advanced SL has room for tires up to 32mm wide; perfect for riders looking to train on less-than-perfect roads.
SRAM's 12-speed Force eTap AXS road components have allowed bicycle designers to reimagine performance, especially at the drivetrain. SRAM's wireless shifting is truly lightning-quick, even under hard pedaling loads. This completely eliminates distractions regarding shifting technique and timing. There are no cables to internally route, reducing the bike's aero drag. Removing the batteries from each derailleur for recharging is simple and tool-free. 500 miles between recharges is common, depending on frequency of front shifts. Charge level is displayed on simple LED lights on each derailleur, or with the free SRAM AXS smartphone app (yes, there's an app for that). The Force crankset is a 48/35T combination, and features a ready-to-use wireless integrated Quarq DZero power meter. Keeping tabs on your training has never been simpler or clearer with Quarq. The TCR Advanced SL's cassette is a 12-speed Force XG-1270 10-28T unit, bringing one-tooth jumps to the hardest 8 cogs; perfect for keeping a just-right pedaling cadence during training and racing. The dual-control levers boast an adjustable lever reach and contact point adjustment, allowing riders with shorter fingers a safer, more confident stop. Textured lever hoods and shift buttons improve the already-intuitive shifting operation. SRAM's hydraulic Force brake calipers bring excellent stopping power to every ride in all conditions, rain or shine.
Giant supplies the tubeless carbon fiber SLR-1 42 wheelset, complete with tubeless 700x28c CADEX Road Race tires, bringing instant acceleration and boatloads of grip to every mile.
The TCR Advanced SL's cockpit was also extensively rethought. The carbon fiber Contact SLR stem and aero-optimized carbon fiber Contact SLR road handlebar are extremely light, but still retain much more adjustability compared to 1-piece bar-and-stem combinations. The hydraulic brake hosing is still routed under the bar tape, but isn't fully submerged inside the bars, stem and frame. Your mechanic will very pleased.
A SRAM eTap AXS battery charger and computer mount is included with the purchase of this bicycle.
If you are interested in purchasing this bicycle, please make sure you are completely confident of your saddle height and position. The TCR Advanced SL comes with two seat mast caps (25mm and 50mm) that allow for future component changes. Measure twice, cut once...
Electronic drivetrain systems deliver excellent shifting, easy set up, and solid battery life. Here are the highlights of today’s electronic shifting systems:
Electronic shifting systems use powerful servomotors to rapidly shift the chain. Because microprocessors and sensors constantly monitor every aspect of the system, they shift with precisely and without chain rub.
Many major systems have customizable shifting. Some have the ability to add remote shifters for common riding positions, and some even allow you to change the functions of the shifting buttons.
Electronic groupsets are responsive and consistent. There are no cables to stretch and wear out, so you get a flawless shift every time. The added bonus is you’ll never have to replace a derailleur cable ever again.
