Giant's Defy Advanced bicycles are designed to take you as far as you want to ride. A smooth feel, upright fit and stable handling all work together to make every mile easier. Broken pavement, potholes and even unpaved roads were all front-and-center in the minds of the engineers when the Defy Advanced series was being designed. Giant's Advanced Composite material starts with Toray's T-700 raw carbon fiber for high torsional strength and very light weight. By using strategic layering and frame tube shaping, the Defy Advanced 2 brings instant pedaling response during hard efforts, especially during uphill, out-of-the-saddle charges. A PowerCore press-fit bottom bracket improves power transfer further. Tapered seat stays and a clever seat tube shape add compliance to help deal with potholes, choppy blacktop and railway crossings. Giant's exclusive D-Fuse seatpost is certainly light, but also flexes slightly over rough pavement to improve comfort further. A tapered OverDrive head tube anchors the frame's down tube, allowing the designers to reduce weight while not sacrificing overall frame strength. The Defy Composite 2's fork is also built from Advanced Composite material, adding lightness and comfort in equal measure. Thru-axle hubs front and rear add an extra dash of torsional strength for precise handling during high-speed descents and turns.
A comfortable fit makes every mile better, and the Defy Advanced 2 boasts a tall head tube, allowing a wider range of riders -and rider flexibilities- to fit more easily for multi-hour rides. A slightly longer wheelbase improves stability, reducing rider stress when the tarmac goes from bad to worse. Instead of sharp-handling geometry found on a pro's road racing machine, the Defy Advanced 2's geometry is more like a Grand Touring car: Swift and light, but still manageable and comfortable. Need wider rubber than the Defy Advanced 2's stock tires? There's enough space for tires up to 35mm wide!
Shimano's 11-speed 105 components are found throughout the drivetrain, including the dual-control levers, both derailleurs, and 11-34T cassette. An alloy Shimano 50/34T compact crankset offers a wide gearing range for challenging terrain without the added weight of a triple crankset. Boasting a wide gearing range for steep ascents and long service life, Shimano's 105 drivetrain performs best on challenging routes and centuries. Hydraulic Shimano 105 disc brakes are not only powerful and feature excellent lever feedback, but also perform in all conditions, rain or shine. Alloy PR-2 disc-specific tubeless wheels are shod with 700x32c Gavia Fondo tubeless tires for a smooth feel, puncture resistance and easy acceleration. Giant's alloy Contact D-Fuse road handlebar and Contact stem are matched with a Contact saddle to complete this century-ready machine.
