The Defy Advanced family for 2021 were designed from the outset as clean-sheet-of-paper bikes, not cobbled-together compromises. This guarantees the best performance for riders seeking to challenge themselves or roads rough and smooth.
The Defy Advanced 2 is built around an Advanced-grade carbon fiber frame, giving the bike a lightweight backbone to help deliver pedaling power effectively. The relaxed geometry of the Defy provides a long wheelbase for a stable feel on rough and choppy pavement. A taller head tube allows a wider range of riders -and rider flexibilities- to fit comfortably for extended hours in the saddle. Internal cable routing and flat-mount brake installation gives the bike a clean look. Even the seatpost binder bolt is submerged in the frame for a more aero profile. The unique D-Fuse Composite seatpost soaks up vibrations and low-frequency impacts better than any other carbon fiber seatpost, making every mile smoother. Delivering power to the bike is done through the PowerCore press-fit bottom bracket, ensuring that the rider isn’t wasting energy flexing a rubbery bike. Giant’s OverDrive 2 tapered carbon fiber fork cuts weight and improves the bike’s handling in fast turns and descents, as well as improving feel under hard braking. Considering even wider rubber than the stock 32mm tires? The Defy Advanced will accommodate tires up to 35mm wide!
The Giant Defy Advanced 2 is equipped with Shimano’s latest 11-speed 105 derailleurs and 11-34T cassette for smooth shifting and long service life. A Shimano 50/34T compact crankset boasts immense torsional rigidity for uphill, out-of-the-saddle efforts. Shimano 105 dual-control brake/shift levers have an adjustable reach for smaller hands and retain the lighter mechanical feel of Shimano’s recent 11-speed shifters. Although each lever has an internal hydraulic reservoir, it still keeps a familiar lower-profile shape that Shimano riders expect. The hydraulic calipers themselves are aluminum for light weight and rock-solid rigidity. 160mm front/140mm rear rotors disperse heat quickly, even under repeated deceleration. The Defy Advanced 2 needed disc-specific wheels for high performance riding, and the P-R2 wheelset is more than up to the challenge. The disc-specific lightweight alloy rims keep rotating mass down while 700x32c Gavia Fondo 1 tubeless tires offer confident grip and a smooth ride. Giant’s Contact SL alloy handlebars and stem are paired with an Approach saddle to complete the cockpit.
