"I need a road bike... But for triathlons!"

This enthusiastically-delivered sentence has been uttered for years, nay decades, to bike shop staff. Many of our customers request this style of bike in the hopes that the industry has filled the demand for a Swiss Army knife of high-performance road machines. Something aero, but not too heavy. Something comfortable for an IronMan distance, but won't look out of place at a group ride. A bike that does everything well. And isn't heart-stoppingly expensive, either.

Felt has been doing this kind of bike for years.

Meet the Aero Road -or AR- series. The AR3 is their best mechanical-shift bike, and is equipped with Shimano's stalwart 11-speed Ultegra components. The frameset of the AR3 boasts aero shaping and details that make it an excellent multi-mission machine. Deep tube cross-sections allow the AR3 to slice through the air like a hot cinder through jell-o, while internal cable routing keeps the bike looking sleek. The rear Ultegra direct-mount brake caliper is hidden under the bottom bracket out of the air stream, too. By leaving the rear seat stays empty, that element of the frame is designed to be more compliant for reduced rider fatigue, especially over rough pavement. Even the seat post is a blade-style shape, and is reversible for a better fit with tri-bars. Cool, huh? The head tube/steerer tube is still tapered for precise handling, but is a 1-1/8" to 1-1/4" size to keep the bike's aero profile smooth up front. Alloy Bontrager RXL wheels and 700x25c Bontrager R1 Hard-Case Lite tires make for excellent rolling stock for training and racing.
