Details

Recumbents are an excellent choice for riders looking for a smooth ride and better stability than a classic two-wheeled machine. What happens when you add an extra wheel on the front? Everything gets better, smoother and -if you want- faster, thanks to Bosch's Active Line Plus electric power-assist motor and 400 Wh battery. The Bosch Purion display is easy to read, and allows the user to increase or decrease the level of assistance with the touch of a button. The Active Line Plus motor smoothly delivers up to 50Nm of torque, ensuring there are no surprises for first-time users. Range, charge level and speed are also displayed. The Bosch battery can be detached for recharging with the included home charger. A top assisted speed of 20mph will get you over hill and dale with ease!

Catrike's Trail 3-wheel "tadpole" recumbent is an excellent machine for first-time recumbent riders. The Trail is stable and comfortable, giving the rider (pilot?) a planted feel on the road or trail. A comfortable padded seat and adjustable seat back allows the rider to completely forget about what they're sitting on and instead focus on the roads and trails ahead. Catrike's American-built TIG-welded aluminum frame is not only light, but very strong for responsive handling and power transfer.

The drivetrain of any recumbent must have a wide gearing range to help tackle steep hills and inclines. SRAM supplies the indexed 11-speed TT bar-end shifter, making gear changes second nature and hassle-free. A SRAM 11-speed long-cage Apex rear derailleur operates with lightning-quickness, even under hard pedaling loads. An alloy crankset with 44T chainrings is matched with an 11-42T SRAM cassette, boasting a massive gearing range that matches well with the Bosch motor's power levels.

Alloy wheels are wrapped with Schwalbe's grippy 1.5" Marathon Racer tires, boasting low rolling resistance and a smooth ride quality. Reigning in speed is done with the help of Avid's popular cable-operated BB7 disc brakes. Rain or shine, they'll get the job done better than caliper brakes. Thru-axle hubs add an extra dash of handling precision.

Useful accessories come standard on the 5.5.9, including a rear fender, computer mount, rear view mirror and Bosch home charger.

The rider weight limit for this recumbent is 275 pounds.
