The FX 2 has been a fan-favorite for a few seasons, which might make Trek averse to changing such a popular bike. But you'd be wrong...
The best change to be found is the bike's frame, with an upgrade to Trek's Alpha Gold aluminum tubing. Tapered and flowing tube shapes give the FX 2 a stunning look as well as lighter weight and greater strength. The FX 2 boasts mounts for a rear rack, fenders and water bottle cages, adding versatility for commuting duty. Internal cable routing keeps the shifter cables cleaner for longer, as well as adding to the bike's sleek lines. The FX 2's overall fit and size range works with a wide range of riders and rider flexibilties, too. Keeping track of your rides on your smartphone? There's even an aperture in the left chainstay for a DuoTrap S ANT+/Bluetooth speed/cadence sensor (sold separately).
A bike is only as good as the components chosen for it, and Trek knew that wheels make all the difference. Bontrager's 32-spoke Connection alloy wheels are shod with semi-treaded Bontrager H2 Comp 700x35c tires, adding easy acceleration and confident grip on pavement and hardpan trails. Plan on riding on hilly countryside roads? The FX 2 features a 48/38/28T triple crankset and 11-32T Shimano rear cassette, offering a massive gearing range for heavy loads and steep ascents. Gear changes are done with 8-speed Shimano shifters and derailleurs, bringing fingertip operation to the party. Tektro HD-R280 hydraulic disc brakes help keep speed reigned in, no matter the conditions, rain or shine. An accessory-ready alloy Blendr stem adds a spot for a phone or headlight mount. Bontrager also provides the alloy seatpost, Sport saddle, alloy handlebar and comfy long-tail Satellite grips to complete this excellent machine.
The FX 2 has been a favorite for Madison for years. Everyone likes the light weight, fantastic fit and versatility of this Machinery Row favorite. Trek didn't mess with a good thing when updating this brilliant runabout! They kept the lightweight aluminum frame, upright fit and user-friendly features that we have come to expect. But they added something that has been trickling down from mountain bikes for awhile: Disc brakes!
By building the FX 2 around a lightweight Alpha Gold aluminum frame, the bike remains a nimble machine for urban errands, fitness rides and weekend adventures. Mounts for racks, fenders and water bottle cages opens up all sorts of possibilities! For the fitness rider wanting to keep track of ride details, there's an aperture in the left chainstay for an ANT+/Bluetooth speed/cadence sensor (sold separately) that can connect with your smartphone or handlebar computer. The overall fit of the FX 2 Disc offers a more upright posture, and a cushy Bontrager sport saddle and long-tail Satellite grips make for comfortable touchpoints. Need a short standover height? The FX 2 Disc comes in an Extra-Small frame size!
Shimano's 8-speed shifters and derailleurs give the FX 2 Disc precise operation and long service life. Those aforementioned Tektro disc brakes are hydraulic and add plenty of stopping power in wet or dry conditions. Commute confidently!
When you step back and look at the kid's bikes, they all start to look the same: Heavy frames, heavily treaded tires and a clumsy suspension fork that isn't really needed most of the time. Trek's Wahoo is different approach to those first long bike rides beyond the neighborhood. A lightweight Alpha Silver aluminum frame helps to keep your little shredder feeling less tired on hot summer days. Instead of deeply-treaded monster-truck tires, the Wahoo sports low-profile rubber to help keep their momentum. A single 8-speed Shimano trigger shifter control a rear Shimano derailleur, simplifying gear changes. a 11-34T rear Shimano cassette boasts a wide gearing range for hilly trails (and that last climb when riding to school). Linear-pull brakes help keep speed in check. A bottle cage mount and rear rack mounts on the frame show that Trek left nothing off when building a bike for the next cycling generation. The size chart says "Fit for riders 53-66 inches tall", but come in for a test ride just to be sure.
