Zipp spends so much time in the wind tunnel that they say you can spot a Zipp Engineer by the way their hair only goes straight back.  Zipp has had a 58mm rim profile ever since it designed the first deep-section carbon rims back in the early ‘90s.

The 404 of today is race proven and the current version is faster than ever thanks to Zipps third generation of their patented dimpling pattern and a rim shape derived from over 100 hours of wind tunnel testing. The rims profile also offers the benefit of added stiffness, due to a slight widening of the rim, and better braking thanks to an angled brake track.

Zipp uses Kevlar to dramatically increase impact resistance. These aren’t janky, ultra-fragile wheels that need to be babied. Zipp also incorporates a shock-absorbing material, which they call their VCLC system, to reduce vibration.
