Flashpoint FP-40 Wheels

The 40mm rim depth of the FP-40 makes it an excellent “all-day” wheel choice thanks to its blend of aerodynamics and controllability in cross winds and it’s lightweight makes it a good climber too, only 1615 grams for the set. Flashpoint wheels are basically a traditional aluminum wheel with a carbon fiber fairing for aerodynamic improvement. This is cool and here is why. Zipp 404 tubular wheelset

Zipp spends so much time in the wind tunnel that they say you can spot a Zipp Engineer by the way their hair only goes straight back.  Zipp has had a 58mm rim profile ever since it designed the first deep-section carbon rims back in the early ‘90s. The 404 of today is race proven and the current version is faster than ever thanks to Zipps third generation of their patented dimpling pattern and a rim shape derived from over 100 hours of wind tunnel testing. Zipp 1080 rear tubular wheel

Faster than ever before with the same Zipp durability, the 108mm-deep Zipp 1080 is the World’s fastest non-disc wheel. Crosswinds make a disc wheel a real bear especially for a smaller, lighter rider, and the 1080 may be a perfect alternative.  Disc wheels can also be heavy, and thus do not accelerate as quickly. Zipp Sub-9 Disc rear

Rumor has it the Sub-9 was designed using technology recovered from a UFO that had crashed in the parking lot at Zipp HQ. Whether or not that actually happened, the Sub-9 is fast, so fast in fact that when paired with Zipp’s 21mm Tangente tire the wheel produces forward lift. Despite its rigid appearance, the vibration dampening carbon Sub-9 yields a comfortable ride. This makes it the ideal choice for long-course triathletes. The flatter and less-technical the course, the more the 998 gram Sub-9 will help. A word of Warning: Variation in individual chain stay specifications on these bike models may cause interference issues with the Sub9. 2006 Zipp 606 Clydesdale tubular wheelset

The Zipp 606 wheelset is a Zipp 404 front wheel coupled with a Zipp 808 rear wheel.  Excellent for fast, powerful riders on technical courses where accelerating out of tight corners, or up short, steep hill is critical. If you’ve hesitated to buy carbon wheels because you’re over 180lbs. as well as powerful, this particular wheelset will ease your concerns.  These wheels are Zipp’s “Clydesdale” version, specifically for riders over 180lbs.
