Toray’s high-modulus carbon fiber is used in the fabrication of this gorgeous frame, enabling Orbea to use a tapered head tube for sure-footed handling in high-speed corners. 2011 Orbea Orca SLT

This is the machine that Spanish pro team Euskaltel-Euskadi help develop every time they ride. The frame has been carefully refined since being introduced in 2007. With an even closer eye towards aerodynamics, the 2011 Orca SLT has added features like a bladed-style seatpost, down tube and tapered seat collar. The factors that made is such a success in the past are still there: Monocoque frame design, tapered steerer tube and aerospace-quality carbon materials. Sammy Sanchez used an Orca to win his Olympic gold medal in the road race, and Orbea uses those lessons to refine their best bike. The Orca SLT uses Ultegra 6700 components in concert with Mavic Kysrium Equipe wheels shod with Vittoria Diamante Pro tires.
