A Tour de France-winning bicycle made from scratch here in Wisconsin? Without a doubt, Trek’s Madone series of bicycles have made an impact on the world stage under the fastest riders ever to swings leg over a top tube. The Madone 6.2 reflects how that technology, engineering and innovation can be applied to everyone’s riding, from recreational riders to elite racers. The 600-Series OCLV carbon fiber frame is staggeringly light and stiff, but produces uncompromising ride quality with its raw carbon “recipe” and no-cut seat-mast. What good is a light bicycle if it hammers the fillings out of your teeth? The frame’s ability to transfer power comes with the massive down tube, BB90 bottom bracket and tall chain stays. They all work to transfer your every pedal stroke into moving down the road, not just flexing like limp pasta. The tapered head tube gives a wide anchoring point for the down tube, and also allows for a 1-1/2” headset holding the fork in place under the stress of fast, sweeping turns and massive braking. The fork’s standard 1-1/8” steerer tube allows the use of everyday stems for ease of bike fitting. The Madone also has internal cable routing for mechanical or electronic shifting drivetrains. Even the left side chainstay has an aperture for installing the DuoTrap speed and cadence sensor for use with any ANT+ compatible computer.

The Madone 6.2 is equipped with Shimano’s latest version of their 10-speed Ultegra components. The 6700-series Ultegra components took 150 grams off the previous generation Ultegra parts, yet still improves shifting response and increases the rear derailleur’s capacity to a 28T largest rear cog for really steep hills. The brake lever blades are now carbon fiber, taking weight off while still retaining stiffness.  Even the chain is asymmetrical for faster shifting from the small to large chainrings.

The Bontrager Race Lite alloy wheelset is an excellent compliment to this machine. Bladed spokes slice through the air, while alloy spoke nipples reduce weight at the rim. The rim itself is a tapered semi-aero profile, and has eyelets to spread the workload of each spoke over a wider surface area. Cartridge bearing increase overall durability and service life, and machined brake tracks ensure consistent brake performance.

All other components are by Bontrager as well. The Race X Lite alloy stem, alloy Race bar, ride-tuned carbon seat-mast cap and Affinity saddle complete this outstanding machine.
